NAEYC Code of Ethics
I-1.5—To create and maintain safe and healthy settings that
foster children’s social, emotional, cognitive, and physical development and
that respect their dignity and their contributions.
I-2.1—To be familiar with the knowledge base related to working
effectively with families and to stay informed through continuing education and
training.
I-2.2—To develop relationships of mutual trust and create
partnerships with the families we serve.
DEC Professional
Practice
We shall demonstrate the highest standards of personal
integrity, truthfulness, and honesty in all our professional activities in
order to inspire the trust and confidence of the children and families and of
those with whom we work.
We shall demonstrate our respect and appreciation for all
families’ beliefs, values, customs, languages and culture relative to their nurturance and support
of their children toward achieving meaningful and relevant priorities and
outcomes families’ desire for themselves and their children.
We shall rely upon evidence based research and interventions to
inform our practice with children and families in our care.
These ideals are meaningful because as
an early childhood educator it is important do everything possible to ensure
children’s safety and well-being through providing a healthy environment to
foster growth in all areas of development, and keeping abreast of new
evidenced-based research. Equally
important is respecting and acknowledging families and encouraging collaborative
involvement in children’s learning.
I like your choices from the NAEYC and DEC. I especially like 1-1.5 from the NAEYC because that's what it's all about. We as educators and advocates have to foster children's development in order for them to grow into productive adults.
ReplyDeleteI think 1-2.1 is great. Too often we ignore the fact that parents / families are important. Sometimes we treat them like intruders, who want to violate our classrooms.
ReplyDeleteI really liked your choices Audrey. I too chose your first two from DEC. I feel that these two really help to create a safe environment for the children, their families and colleagues to be in.
ReplyDeleteAudrey,
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for all the great posts. I found them to be very interesting. I hope all the best for you in the future courses and life. Hopefully, we will be in some more classes together and we can get to know each other better. GOOD LUCK!!
